Stratum Colt Wins Sires Produce

attentionreturn 400The James Harron Bloodstock team were in celebration mode at Doomben on Saturday when stunning looking Stratum colt Attention scored his second stakes victory when saluting in the Group II BRC Sires Produce Stakes.

Trained by Peter and Paul Snowden, Attention won the Group III ATC TL Baillieu Handicap back in March and showed his class again when winning the 1350 metre contest by a neck.

AttentionAttentionWinning rider Blake Shinn was impressed with Attention.

"His got a great mannerism about him,” Shinn said. "He takes everything in his stride and that gives me great confidence going to the 1600m.”

The mile Shinn refers to is the $600,000 Group I JJ Atkins (1600m) to be run at Eagle Farm in a fortnight.

"I love my horses’ determination,” Shinn said. "He’s got that will to win and that will only give him confidence going forward.”

Redoutes Reaches Group 1 Milestone

Redoute-sChoice-04192011-DSC 0359 resized2013-6-17-16-13-943The early results of this term's bunch of European first-season sires are providing the usual interest. Several young sires have already made smart starts, while the most celebrated of the freshmen, Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), currently has statistics of one winner from one runner, courtesy of the victory at Newbury which ensured that Cunco (Ire) has the distinction of being Frankel's first foal, Frankel's first runner and Frankel's first winner.

Another extremely distinguished horse among Europe's current freshmen is a stallion who is a proven sire and first-season sire simultaneously: Redoute's Choice (Aus) (Danehill) has been champion sire of Australia three times and notched his 30th Group 1 winner on Saturday, but he is a new-comer as far as European breeding is concerned.

The offspring resultant from Redoute's Choice's first European season (at Haras de Bonneval in 2013) will be making their debuts in the coming months. Redoute's Choice's first Northern crop represent intriguing prospects, asimplied by the fact that his only representative in this weekend's Arqana Breeze-Up sale at Deauville fetched $775,000, the daughter of Sunday Nectar (Ire) (Footstepsinthesand {GB}) being bought by Stephen Hillen Bloodstock to join the English stable of Kevin Ryan.

Break Out Season for Not A Single Doubt

not a single doubt 4amarkWhile Not A Single Doubt looks likely to come up short in the race for the champion sires title for the 2015-16 racing year, it is the season he emerged from the shadow of his sire Redoute's Choice and paternal half-brother Snitzel at Arrowfield Stud.

Not a Single Doubt had just one Group 1 winner on the board when the season commenced in August last year, the Blue Diamond Stakes heroine Miracles Of Life.

He doubled that total when the Chris Waller-trained Good Project took out the WATC Railway Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in November.

One of the star two-year-olds of the season has been the Mick-Price-trained Extreme Choice who became the third Group 1 winner for Not A Single Doubt when he strolled home in the Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.

Nothing panned out for the chestnut in the Golden Slipper in which he started a short-priced favourite. After missing the start he continually ran into traffic problems so his eighth place finish was full of merit.

Written Tycoon Book Full

writtentycoon2015 400Woodside Park Stud in conjunction with Inglis Digital have announced an exclusive opportunity to secure a nomination for the 2016 breeding season to the hottest sire in Australasia, WRITTEN TYCOON, whose book has been declared full.

The 2016 service fee of $49,500 inc. GST was announced by Woodside late last week and his book is already closed just a few days later.

"It’s hardly surprising that we have been inundated, as Written has firmly established himself in the elite category of stallions this season, siring two individual Group One winning two-year-olds in a fortnight, including the Golden Slipper winner Capitalist,” said Matt Tillett of Woodside Park Stud.

Son Of Tycoon Wins The Slipper

capitalist- sire custodiansThe most popular stallion in Australia right now would have to be the magnificent liver-chestnut son of Iglesia, Written Tycoon (WT) who continued his golden run of late with another string of winners over the weekend, culminating in the all-important Group One victory which had previously eluded him.

There is no greater achievement for a commercial stallion and stud farm than victory in the World’s best 2yo race, The Golden Slipper, and on Saturday at Rosehill Gardens, Capitalist made this a reality for his sire and our stud.

Capitalist achieved the very rare Magic Millions/Slipper double which has never been achieved by a colt before, but more importantly for Woodside he became WT’s first Group One winner.

We would like to congratulate all of the connections of Capitalist including but not limited to: Peter and Paul Snowden and their racing manager Jackson Beirs, Newgate Farm, James Harron Bloodstock and of course Blake Shinn for his brilliant ride. We would like to make a special mention of the most accomplished breeder Jan Clark and her managers Mark and Sarah McCann at Daandine Stud in Queensland who not only bred Capitalist, but also bred his sire Written Tycoon –what a story!
